Okay that only helped me avoid my own problems for 15 minutes. Back to TV 🤔

Can technological and scientific progress continue forever, or could it stop in future?

Forever is a very long time. Over the sufficiently long term it is almost 100% certain to stop. There are vastly more ways it could stop than continue.

Almost no chance you satisfy the rare conditions where that's possible. Find something you like doing for 40h/week that people will pay for and just start doing that as imaginatively as you can. At worst, you'll have a good life. At best, you'll open doors more interesting than $

I've stumbled into being de facto product manager (from Senior SWE) since nobody else was filling the role. Should I formalize the title?

Yes if you can do it without ruining any important relationships. Formal resume stuffing matters and there's no real downside to it. If it might ruin some relationships, you might question why you have those relationships.

If you’re getting to the age and/or career point where you really ought to be a key and you aren’t one, is there anything you can do about it short of blowing up your life?

It means you're not taking enough risks. Continuing doing what you do well, but look for ways to increase risks in every decision. "Blowing up your life" is right direction, wrong intensity. Focused, quiet, hidden risk-taking, not dramatic gestures.

That's not an advice question. That's a backroom gossip fishing question. I wouldn't be in business making a living the way I do if I indulged in that :)
