A big mistake institutionalist romantics make is thinking tech *caused* the ongoing collapse of institutions. No. The evidence is clear. They've been collapsing steadily since 1974. Tech merely created channels for the anger to flow. The dam burst elsewhere.

But didn't tech cause 1974? TCP/IP. Ethernet. Cellphone and touchscreen patents. C. All in 1973. 😁

Different era of tech. Also included containerization, plastics/disposability...🙂

Lest you're worried,but don't actually think that caused 2008 😀. It's just
Fascinating to thinknof what 1973-74 will eventually be bookmarked by. And same for 2007-08.

I think 1974 prime cause was a) competition growing from Germany and Japan b) previous 10 years of industrial automation/minicomputers.
Tech impact time constants have been shortening though.

That's pretty US specific no? I think of 73/74 (and 07/08) as world mini-epochs. Like 1914 or 1945.

US = world economically/technologically during that period, so not a bad approximation. That’s what tech leadership means. It’s been unbroken since 1854 or so module brief challenges by Germany and USSR. Even post 70s, Japan etc we’re fast followers not leaders.
