The reward for living through a major loss-of-innocence period of history while coming of age is that you develop a certain capacity for healthy sentimentality. You can appreciate emotional tenor of past without romanticizing it, because you know viscerally why it had to end.

It may not feel that way now, but I suspect people 14-22 now will be able to appreciate pre-2015 world without regretting ongoing endings. You’ll have no true nostalgia for that era but are not emotionally remote from it either. I have fond memories of 80s but am glad they ended.

9/11 was national. Tech bust was regional/sectoral. Non tech people and non investors barely noticed.
