I used to rely on the argument "your right to speak does not mean I have an obligation to listen' as my basic response to free speech++ absolutists, but it is curiously ineffective. I think human brains haven't yet learned that tech can separate listening from speaking.

Ears can't be shut like eyes can. In our notional paleo environment where nobody had wheels or megaphones, the only way you could deny someone a right speech was to kill them. Otherwise they'd just follow you around continuing to talk.

That seems like a totally reasonable response. But does "not listening" mean, not following someone on Twitter, blocking someone on Twitter, or getting someone's account banned from Twitter. <Your right to free speech ends at my ear> is a lot more defensible than bans.
