Polytheism proper is like an Internet of somewhat incompatible, independent-origin gods. The modern "polytheism" of Hinduism isn't the real thing since a syncretic-monotheistic Brahminical backend theology had been put in place by ~1300 AD due to various "reform" movements.

You mean "true" polytheism shouldn't have universe cross-over events for Gods? Btw I do not think "monotheistic" is the right term to use here. Or you might have your definition for the term in which case I'd be interested to know what it is.

I feel like having the thing end in -ism is slightly misleading, it gives the impression of a more unified philosophy/doctrine. Like perhaps it's more a situation a society can be in, than a religion a society follows
