The most unnatural thinking humans do is figuring out story endings. It is not in the nature of good stories to really end. The cleanest endings tend to draw from the finality of death in some way: dead dragon, murder victim, “timeless” afterlife type “situations” in sitcoms...

Everyone got mad that LOST ended in the afterlife and I was like “Shit, after all that, how could you expect anything less?”

Humans crave forgetfulness. A task done and forgotten. Closure. Sure struggles don't end but too many in your head at once and you get overwhelmed and freak out.
