Being impressed with yourself is a bit like being able to tickle yourself. I have no idea how some people seem able to do it. 🤔 Seems like the crucial ingredient of surprise would be missing. I'd have to be in a really unprecedented situation to potentially surprise myself.

OK but it seems like there are countless little ways to impress yourself in situations without much risk -- literally anything that you do better/faster than you anticipated. Parallel parking, cooking an omelette, calculating a restaurant tip in your head.

I'm often pleased with outcomes, but not with my own part in it. I recognize whatever went right that didn't previously, or luck that wasn't there before. I suspect I skip straight from observing better outcomes to theorizing why they happened, without stopping at 'impressed'
