The use of NPC as a slur is either deeply ironic, or deeply prophetic, depending on whether you think gaming in the future is going to be an OS for civilization or continue as a place to park inconsequential humans in a place of relative psychological stability.

Err it's the default way most non-gamers look at it (as in people who might occasionally game for fun, but their lives don't revolve around it)

prophetic. everyone's own life is/has NPCs -- it's a strong indication of who's narrative you're listening to

Aren't we already parking mass quantities of inconsequential humans?
We just call it by different names with more convoluted social/wage/function structures.

it’s evidence of sociopathy, basic failure to empathize with the subjective experience of other humans. 4chan is a sociopath magnet, so of course they’re going to turn this into “a thing”

Only en masse and when directed by a mass movement leader. Individual NPCs *are* inconsequential are are leaderless crowds of them. Takes a sociopath to program them.
