We don’t live in a post-truth society so much as a post-romantic society. This is far more more dangerous. Post-truthiness can be mitigated technologically. But a deficit of romanticism cannot be solved until imagination returns to public spaces from where it’s been driven out

Reactionary aestheticsand pastoralism != romanticism. I suppose I need a more precise term for forward looking, frontier seeking romanticism

Yeah, romanticism is somewhat of a muddy term. I primarily associate it with Sturm and Drang. I think both pastoral and frontier subplots came later. Primary association of romanticism for me is emotional subjectivity over logical objectivity.

Not necessarily nostalgic, is my point. You can accord primacy to emotion/subjectivity in other ways. Impressionism onwards, all art has that quality to some extent whether or not it is nostalgic. I would argue Rick and Morty is kinda nihilism+Sturm und Drang but not nostalgic.
I believe if there is anything post, it is in that subjectivity and objectivity are no longer binary or at least 2D. Our instruments for measurement continously improve in their ability to atomize & segment and so does our ability to minify & magnify emergent ideologies: 2D->nD
