I'm not a "progressive" in the sense of expecting people to be the best versions of themselves. Nor do I believe they'll perversely strive to be worst versions of themselves. My assumption is that they'll half-ass personal growth and land on mediocrity 80% of the time. Like me.

Just realizing that I didn't think of Progressivism as a program of moral improvement, or one that *depended* on people being better. Rather, it assumed that people are basically weak, and that broadly supportive social structures are indispensable to general well-being

It isn't, generally speaking. But there's definitely a subset of progressives who have that idea of it.
