“Dignity cultures” are great for producing high trust societies and maybe even material wellbeing but also for producing insufferable pricks who don’t even know how close they come to getting their chin buttons pushed on the reg.

Sounds like you mean "pillars of society" type New England dignity? When I think honor culture I think Jacksonian America or Yemeni tribals or Japan. Dignity is a looser concept I think, since a version of it exists as social justice culture too.

You’re probably right. It’s definitely a spectrum. I guess I think of it as this innate inviolability of the individual. Like..: you can just transgress another’s honor an place with impugnity as long as there is no concrete infraction to appeal to a court about.
