I've now heard 2 unrelated people compare the kavanaugh affair to the dreyfus affair
I was initially confused, but now I see people are comparing (probably) kavanaugh to esterhazy, not dreyfus... with ford being dreyfuss?

I don’t think this is comprable at all - neither Captain Dreyfus nor the rat traitor bastard Major Eszterhazy was up for a key position in the French government.

I think the analogy to dreyfus serving 5 years of a life sentence before being released and another 10 before being exonerated is Ford's suffering the trauma in silence for 40y while K had a nice career, as for position... well, regular career prospects in the military

I suspect the analogy isn't so literal as to map to personalities. People are hopeful that the scandal will persist and solidify into a symbol with lasting political/cultural significance.
