There should be like an Atlas Shrugged for emotional labor

Jeez I’m not reading a 70 page pdf on emotional labor. What do I look like, an emotional laborer?

yeah I think sometime last year. I didn't have to force myself, it's like a good reddit thread that draws you in. I wanted to understand women better so it was a no-brainer; in it they're being honest and open to a degree you seldom see in everyday life

So is men being expected to show no vulnerability considered emotional labor? Or is it theorized on the entitlement side making this a primarily female cause? 🤔

I think the *consequences* of male toughness require emotional labour (ie shitty dad -> mum cleans up the mess).
I think the responsibility for the creation of the expectation of "show no vulnerability" is foisted on the patriarchy

I did a quick browse and I’m more than a little skeptical of the underlying narrative. The phenomenology is real, but the theory feels 100% ideological. A case of theorizing EL to be primarily an anti-patriarchy weapon rather than an insightful explanation.

yeah I'm happy just to get a higher-resolution picture of the precise nature of the experiences of people different than me
