This is actually Pournelle’s Iron Law of Bureaucracy applied to meetups. Call it the Iron Law of Meetups: meetups for the sake of X will give way to meetups for the sake of meetups.

1/ Can you say more about this? Sorry for maybe dumb question but does “someone gives a talk with q & a” = “someone kicks of a topic” Trying to get myself out to more meetups but want to be smart about picking them.

2/ I’ve found that the ones where someone gives a talk ESPECIALLY with Q & A leads to great discussions (“hey that was a great point you made . . .”) whereas without that I feel like I’m the new kid at school where everyone knows each other.
