Once I recommend a book to 3+ people, I buy it to read myself.
After I recommend 5 times I crack it open to familiarize myself with it enough to fake having read it
After 7, I feel guilty enough to actually read it, at which point there’s a 50-50 chance I’ll turn against it

FYI, I bought that book about being disliked you mentioned, I won't fake having read it, but that doesn't mean I'll read it.

I actually read that one before recommending since it seemed sketchy at first 🙂

*blush* elephant in the brain, still in my pile somewhere😳
I’m genuinely interested in the thesis but it isn’t on any of my critical paths

I've recommended Seeing Like A State to dozens of people without having actually read it myself; I feel like I pretty much get the gist of it from the various reviews and blogposts about it. I often get thanked for the recommendation afterwards too, which is kinda funny

Well I don’t go so far as reviewing without reading so that one I’ve read
