I've recommended Seeing Like A State to dozens of people without having actually read it myself; I feel like I pretty much get the gist of it from the various reviews and blogposts about it. I often get thanked for the recommendation afterwards too, which is kinda funny

I usually buy it, read 120 pages, love it, recommend to 10+ people, start another one, then go back to it and start arguing with it in my head.
