Which artists/other cultural figures did you only discover upon their deaths?

Off the top of my head: Richard Sapper and Mark Fisher. I had heard of Anthony Bourdain before, but I didn't know what his specific contributions were.

I hadn't heard of Marvin Minsky before his death since I was still primarily inhabiting an architecture bubble at the time, which makes me realize how much I've learned in the past few years in terms of becoming more closely adjacent to tech-related conversations.

Yeah, I didn't really know if I should have admitted that or not. I guess it makes one aware of how specific different silos are, and is a reminder to keep pushing to be more interdisciplinary.

That doesn’t seem so bad. He’s a pretty narrow figure. I probably haven’t heard of more than a couple of architects.
