Big dramatic moves to break out of a rut basically never work. Your rut can make matching big dramatic moves to follow you. You kinda have to sneak out of the rut when it isn’t looking. Play hooky from rut life or something.
Larger complex of fixed habits/routine I suppose. Vacations are a break, but when I move apartments or even cities I tend to reproduce same routine. Recompile for slightly changed hardware.

Admittedly don’t have the research, but Duhigg asserts in Power of Habit that these big changes (moves, vacations, etc) make new routines easier to establish (if a strong catalyst is present) because the old cues/rewards aren’t there.
