Most philosophy seems to be centered on one of 2 things: survival or self-actualization. Almost all non-religious philosophy is centered on the latter. Darwinism (as a philosophy) and existentialism are the only major philosophies of survival that I can think of. Any others?

Is there anywhere where you expand on your take on cybernetics? -- I'd be interested to hear more.

Took some drive-by swipes at it in this talk and I've done some passive aggressive muttering about it in various places, but never felt like doing a proper polemic. That sort of thing doesn't energize me enough to do https://www.slideshare.net/vgururao/systems-thinkinga-foxyapproach …

Shannon discussed these things with Ashby and Wiener. I consider Wiener to be the most insightful (if I had to choose) in "that set." But drawing a line around dead thinkers' ideas seems somewhat narrow-minded. I take the good ideas from anywhere and leave the rest behind.

I think there was good stuff in the original essays (never could get through all of the wiener book) and his technical contributions and academic lineage he established in control theory are above reproach. What I don't like is the bs forced intellectual "scene" that emerged

Of course, Wiener and the others noted that groups of people could all effect and affect/"alter thru F/C" a distributed goal, with nobody being "in charge." They might say "a fluctuating network is 'in charge' of a shifting goal." (This is also true of "cybernetics" itself.)

So, your network can be cautiously unraveling a conspiracy, and Alex Jones can join it, and then some people in the network say, "Hey, we can make money off of what we're doing," ...and then, you're the NRA, and no longer trying to "quickly get rid of gun restrictions." LOL
