The problems began when Nixon found a way to end-run even the formidable and much feared (by the WH staff) Haldeman and enlist more reckless or ambitious characters like Colson, Dean and Liddy whose enthusiasms were poor substitutes for discretion

It seems that Kelly’s first order of business as WH CoS for Trump was to begin getting rid of the clowns and impose some healthy fear in the senior staff. Clowns are funny until they do something reckless and dangerous out of misplaced zeal or a desire to create mischief
