Product leadership without technology leadership is the ‘big hat no cattle’ state in innovation. Fundamentally untenable.

Some of the leadership angle could be unique interpretations of how technological advancement is defined. Ex. Nintendo redefining it to mean a dif. kind of user interface (with motion tracking tech) while other companies still I think mostly saw it as chasing performance specs.

There’s some genuine disruption that rides shifts in technical winds, but in general it’s not something you get to redefine. You can steal a point or to temporarily with redefinitions, but long-term you gotta let nature dictate what counts as an advancement.

It’s another way of saying tech needs actual science discoveries and true invention. Clever design and imaginative product refactoring gets you only so much and only for so long. Non-renewable innovation energy.
