Someone ELI5 this graph to me please. I don’t get it.

How do we know CO2 is rising due to fossil fuel burning? Fossil fuels are dead plants. Plants prefer to consume "light" carbon, and the light C spiked the minute CO2 went up. So, it's definitely us. Figure adapted from doi: 10.1002/jgrd.50668 @KHayhoe @NASA @EdMarkey

The top graph is actually a delta measured on the right y-axis. The *change* in the historic delta (a deceleration) from -6.5 reflects the differential uptake saturating, presumably after controlling for deforestation.
