I’m always surprised when an Australian ends up mattering on a global scale, like Rupert Murdoch. I kinda think of the whole country as a leisure society mostly engaged in sports, acting, and making shark documentaries. And I mean come on, kangaroos are not a serious species.

I think it's the American's that are fascinated with shark documentaries, the Australian's not so much.

I started to post a reply rebutting this and then realised that all of the famous Australians I could think of quickly were... sportspeople or actors. Dammit. 🇦🇺😖

There’s a saying “Australians live for the weekend”. Don’t mistake this for lack of hard work though, we work hard and don’t brag about it 😉🇦🇺

Australia was founded by convicts and has the most number of animal species on earth that will kill you. It is not to be underestimated.

I think it surprises them too...an Aussie friend once told me about their “tall poppy” syndrome and how general success is kind of looked down upon

I used to run a record label with friends called Votary. We reissued all the old Shark doco soundtracks, and the like. They look unserious, but the music was damn serious. So offended.
