Meting out pro-rata punishments sounds Modernist (and maybe these evils are all outcomes of a Rationalist esthetic) so maybe this the opposite way that God does it.

Easy to draw a parallel narrative. Christianity (at least, the Catholic version, which I was taught as a kid.): Humans are born sinful (original sin) and must come to know God, accept His love, and strive to be a good follower of Him in order to be redeemed. (1/2)
