And it's on all sides of the problem. The brightest, cleverest tech beaver can be startlingly dumb when it comes to thinking about what people will do with the tools you're building.

I’m skeptical that anyone does any better. Humanities educated people seem no better at anticipating human responses to tech diffusion. They’re merely worse at participating in tech evolution and first to the Captain Hindsight party.
I agree! My point is, understanding what society will do with a capability is as much about intelligence as understanding how to build an app.
