So when a mechanic leaves the Air Force, then gets hired to do F-35 repairs by Lockheed, rather than just transfer their clearance we should throw away the paperwork and spend months & $15,000 doing it all over again? Smart, real smart.

Err fighter jet maintenance is actually a good candidate to be outsourced. Routine maintenance in the Air Force, more complex stuff to the manufacturer. This is less about ideology more about case by case reasonable calls.

I think it’s dangerous to conflate security issues, economics of outsourcing, and big/small government arguments this way. Too tempting to make lazy arguments. The basic point that there’s a good reason to let ex-government employees retain security clearances as a default stands
