After moving just north enough that AC is nonstandard, getting a portable one (with wheels and a window hose) remains one of my best purchases

That’s a good idea, although a sad hack at Seattle’s overheated rent prices. Getting a good IQ Air air filter unit to take care of PM2.5 and VOCs is another good move for making your own epigenetically sound environment.

Yeah, unless you can buy a $1M house you can’t rent a reasonable apartment. Ridiculous! Seattle went insane during the summer of 2015 when the new min wage was announced & Amazon bought up South Lake Union. Rent seekers more than ate up all gains, and it became a non-viable city
