Why would anyone build an AV with an antique powertrain? Their main market is short trips, and it’s a lot easier for a computer to operate an electric powertrain than a gasoline powertrain.

It's a bounding argument. If it holds for gasoline it will hold for EVs.

But an AV could drive itself a couple of miles to a cheap parking zone and wait there. Maybe not easy in Manhattan, but likely possible in most cities

What I picture: a steady train of slow moving (5 _15 mph) driverless cars cars fill the cities' streets. Not sure how ppl get on/ off yet. It is a dystopian vision.
