I know that. Give me a concrete example of this where an older person (I guess you’re all thinking what, older than 60? 70?) has a conflict or, is in a situation where “following the rules” vs “doing the right thing” comes into conflict—& so causes bewilderment and anger.

I reject that entire frame. I’m an IA/CS. In that work we strive to make meaning clear—whether it’s within the context of a design or in the language used to help visitors find the information they need in a website.

Older people should stop expecting clarity from their environment? You get old so you should GIVE UP on understanding the world? What BS agist crap is this? THAT isn’t even what vgr is trying to say in that Clarity is the responsibility of the communicator.

This is condescending and ageist. Older people don’t stop thinking and growing. People do not give up on life when they hit their 60s and 70s. They may be prey to age and infirmity, but their minds are still good.

There are people in their 20s and 30s and 40s and 50s—all Trumpian Conservatives who are bewildered and angry about the state of the nation—or how they got where they are now.

That sucks. Where was the tension btw “following the rules” and “doing the right thing” in this situation?
