Idea: “elder blogs” by analogy to elder [video] games and human old people. Blogs that recognize/act their age. A blog with 10y of history is like a game long-time readers have played through a few times or an old man who repeats same old stories. How should elder blogs evolve?

Evolve invokes Darwinism. Perhaps "mature" would be a better verb, or "change". Authors mature, as humans and writers. We work through early fascinations, the easily fixed bad writing habits, building relationships to others. And as we move through life, it changes us.

Posts are artifacts of time, mementos of history through the blogger's voice. Invoking cell frame animation (not cellular automata) each post is a cell in the moving picture that ends with death. Lifestreams. So is there a goal for maturing blog? A purpose to hold?

Expression is the one true purpose of the form. Being authentic (however you define that at the moment) and true to yourself. Do you blog collectively? Add being true to your shared values and the motives that brought you together. You & y'all mature. So shall your blog.

I volunteer tech support at a senior center, folks a generation or two from me. They have specific challenges and hacks for them. They forget. So they write memoirs to help them recall. They revisit moments, telling their stories, making new sense of old passages.

Seniors get isolated. So they form groups, sometimes communities of practice. These can be insular so it's healthy to belong to more than one and cross pollenate.

Some seniors keenly regret previous mistakes and paths not taken. A few choose to redress errors, seeking redemption. Others act to explore new paths that evoke the same hopes as old ones. Most hold to the comfort of being changeless.

Aside: I've been blogging (across multiple blogs and media, most abandoned) for 20 years. Oy. Back in the old days you had to write your html by hand. With an awl. And ftp. You whippersnappers don't know how good you have it with your thumbs and siris.

So, hallmarks of a mature thought leadership blog? For me, I like to see... - Connection to the rest of a community of thought and practice - Tools to help newbies catch up to the current conversation - An easy path to join the conversation

More hallmarks... - Reifying. Revisiting the best of your prior art, and recontextualizing it for this moment or a new use/application. - Expiation. Revisiting the worst, and acknowledging your bad writing, taste, judgement, and X (X changes wrt time).
