Is there a way to calculate whether a generation took more wealth out than it created? Inter-generational wealth accounting seems hard, but seems more meaningful than inter-class wealth accounting. Like, quantify whether a generation has net borrowed from or bequeathed to future.

Would you attribute the destruction if WWII to a generation (which one) or factor it out somehow?
Or are you just talking govt. transfer payments?

No doubt there is, but I must ask ... to what end?
Figuring out which group is "to blame" (whether categorised by age or socioeconomic class or political preference or national border) doesn't even get everyone working together, let alone solving the problem. 😐

Verily to wreak vengeance unto them. Or at least high taxes or something.

Does this tie in with the “how much value do you have in the external world” question in some way 😬

Accounting for or ignoring environmental damage? Wealth generated on the back of significant greenhouse gas emissions may in fact be a multi-trillion dollar loan from future generations.

Laurence J. Kotlikoff says yes.
Lots of websites, according to a web search, say no.
