My new technique is to borrow from the SF public library and buy the book if I enjoyed it enough and could see myself referencing it later. The one downside is that I can’t mark it up as I go.
I don’t know if this is true in Seattle but I hope it is. I want to be free-riding off NIMBYs 
I’ve basically stopped buying books in the last couple of years. The Seattle public library is A+.
