I’m looking for good case-study type reads on decentralized and federated architectures, business models, economic dynamics, polities, biological systems etc based on real examples (ie not speculations, whether with or without blockchains).

Various things on theme:
Seen the Netflix culture deck?
Lazlo Ba(i will get his name wrong) on Scale Free Networks is a good start
See pic.
Assorted network and complexity science papers littering my PDF reading list.
How deep down the rabbit hole do you want to go?

Barabasi I believe 🙂
I know that bunny trail well. Lived in it for a while 🐰

At some point, you hit quantum information theory....
Hmm, but now wondering about how Fibonacci progressions interact with network growth.
They are the basis for a lot of organic growth, leaf/branch, vein networks etc.

These are all complex systems things though, that evolve centralized parts to their morphology, and not stay decentralized or federated beyond a phase

Is temporary decentralization and positional variegation therefore just another strategy?
Centralizion vs decentralization have different informational, caloric and adapative efficiencies

It’s a central question. Perhaps even the central question. Can decentralized systems be structurally stable? I suspect not if the boundary is thermodynamically/informationally open.

just thinking of the plant life cycle - and the fact that they communicate chemically between each other and across communities, just that we haven't had the tools to observe until recently.
But plants, from seed to plant to flowering and seed... Is positional variegation. So.

Sorry, was thinking topographical variation and reached for PEV.
Current issue with economic systems is that multi actor, complex + dissipative. And when you have shitty tools that mainly do price 'ie markets' all you have is crappy answers to limited questions
