yeah, you could look at it that way, but debugging obvious bugs is the most consistent, effective grounding experience. typos, for me, are often a reminder to believe what my eyes are seeing. often I'll look and not really see.

Meh. You can get similar problems in hardware. That's why the first commandment of troubleshooting is "Thou shalt check voltages".

Not exactly the same but I once stayed on client site until 2am because our stupid software made it impossible to cancel invoices while in process. I sent a furious email to our ceo. He (ever so politely asked) did you try pressing the huge cancel button?
