Civilization is mostly energy, not information. I suspect all the architectural and engineering design docs for even the biggest cities would fit into like a few petabytes or so. But the energy required to turn pristine land into say New York City is probably humongous.

I was thinking a few petabytes after compression. CAD files are pretty big though they’re vector. Not sure why. Would be interesting to actually estimate this.

Ok yeah actual CAD drawings. I was thinking I guess of your original tweet around procedural generation where e.g. most doors could be compressed to a few kbs or less each

Well buildable designs need more info. Though the floors of a skyscraper might be an n-up repetition, there’s other stuff you don’t need in a VR. And CAD files probably include all sorts of other cruft.
