I remember when people first started using CEO as the title over Managing Director or CMD or President. Felt like a downgrade somehow at the time. Like Chief Flunky. Now we know it was an upgrade. From collegial to dictatorial leadership pattern.

I remember my dad was Managing Director of the company he founded. I think Steve Jobs was the one who popularised CEOs? Or was it earlier than that

In Singapore I remember people wanted to be “businessman”, “business owner”, “entrepreneur”... “founder/CEO” is very recent, like 10yo tops.
