The concept of many intellectuals is that they think “long term” while crowds think short-term. This is exactly backwards. The best case for letting intellectuals occasionally lead is “we face an acute short-term problem, there’s no time to let the wisdom of crowds weigh in.”

Mmm idk. State-of-nature markets (conflict) aren’t as productive as the thing we call “market”, which is a kind of bloodless game with rules framed up by experts.
