Visualizing zero-sum institutional conflict is really hard outside of simple cases like board control. You could color code org charts by tribe etc, but doesn’t really get at how key tactics, like cutting off budgets, weaponized role transfers/reorgs, HR chokepoints work.

This kind of conflict is closer to admins and hackers vying for control of a computer than a traditional maneuvering spatial battle. Smooth/striated partly gets at it, but a lot of the functional striations are people’s minds, not roads or walls.

One reason gervais principle was so surprisingly popular is that it was based on an actual conflict-theory map, if only a cartoon one. Sociopaths/clueless/losers is a conflict map. Most org maps are mistake-theory maps. But isomorphism of “class” are too simple for detailed use
