More of a fundamental design flaw than a mere “bug”. Dozens of regimes had plenty of opportunities to debug communism; none came close to succeeding. (And I’m saying that from a spot well left of center.)

Meh, I'll quibble: dozens? Outside the USSR, you had only a few outside it's influence give it a go. Regardless of whether the communist republics were formally independent, they really followed it's lead.
