I can't see the left creating a fringe comparable to the talk-radio right though. The audience is too fragmented for that. Mini-saga of Maxine Waters suggests there will be no Limbaugh/Gingrich types. A new left power base will emerge in a more fragmented way. Speculations?

Its reach is literally a rounding-error fraction of the reach of talk radio into the right in the 90s/00s

I think the left will just focus on winning elections. A very competent class of legislators enter this year. I think Trump dominance causes the same focus for 2020.
The right isn't as unhinged as the left thinks, Trump will continue to demoralize them with bad news + recession.

If Trump continues to operate same way for rest of this term, I think a small but violent fringe will develop on the Left (akin to the Weathermen et al in the 1960s). But I can't guess howhow mainstream Dems will respond to that.

I have thoughts on this but will write more when I get back to a keyboard

Non-SWM Bernieism, representing a wider demographic, with appeals to sincerity as the most effective response to power-right's ironic memery, probably has the best chance at a foothold
