Is there an essay about American Strauss-Howe generations segmented by comic book tastes rather than years? I think:
Greatest: Tarzan/Phantom prehistory
Silents: DC
Boomers: Marvel
Gen X: Graphic novels (Maus etc), Miller Dark Knight etc
Millennial: Manga

That's great. Didn't think to distinguish creators from audience but makes sense that creators would be 0.5 generations out of phase with consumers. Seems like it needs another axis for globalization threads/crosstalk (US/EU/Manga)
There's also an interesting stylistic contrast between comics created by the same cohort as the audience, vs. ones created by older people for younger readers.

I'm surprised you haven't written at least an essay on this, given that you've written books about both comics and generational dynamics

Maybe though global strands don't begin to converge till mid-90s, at least not in a strong way.

The fact that Golden Age comics were created by earnest young (not yet) Veterans but published by grizzled, transactional Lost accounts for many of the business/creative rights issues that haunt comics to the present day, IMO.
