I think the well-intentioned people rushing in is because of where our society is in relation to knowledge about this area. There's a lot more "get help" and "check on your friends" messages floating around because a generation ago, there were fewer technological options.

More technological options, such as anti-depressants, and different types of talk therapy, mean new low-hanging fruit. There are people for whom "get help" can be a life-changing experience, in a good way. They tend to evangelize, but indiscriminately.
