The common techie posture that politics doesn’t matter/isn’t a solution to anything is no longer harmless. Thing is, politics has the potential to become a much bigger problem even if it offers no solutions. There’s low upside to good politics, high downside to bad politics.

Main thoughts are around the idea trap (Bryan Kaplan) and the negative effects of exit (vs voice) for people stuck in the system. Downsides of disengagement outweigh the lack of upside of engagement, as you say.

1 think it's less "common" than before - every tech company is talking to politicians now
2 we get the politicians we deserve. The strongest levers of power right now are at region / city, business / technology level.
