This is my conversational account. For my work follow @ribbonfarm, @breaking_smart, @artofgig. Tweets are 90% vacuous views, apathetically held. Mediocritopian.

It’s not a good idea to teach at the edge of your own knowledge. You’ll likely mislead people who grok less, and look like an idiot belaboring the obvious to people who grok more. Either drop the didactic posture or target level n-3 so you can see 2 steps ahead of students.

This is true if you want to teach, but maybe not if you want to learn (and are willing to suffer the scorn of people who know more as you provoke them to correct you).

That’s an unreliable learning strategy unless you add other tactics. Far more likely to provoke silent bozobit flipping than teaching.

What if you’re simply “sharing knowledge“ instead of teaching?

Exactly what I'm experiencing converting blog posts from past year into highly structured book. I made up for lack of true understanding with unnecessary complexity, even just a few months ago

you can still do these (for example some graduate seminar style courses) but you do need to take a more collaborative attitude

This captures some types of wannabe experts with a shallow implementation of fake it till you make it but the blogosphere has thrived with many who successfully trod a line where they shared their journey of discovery to help others
