To get at the foundations of an ideology, I think Haidt’s approach has a basic flaw: it only uncovers mimetic values. What you want is to figure out what draws the interesting original thinkers to a given ideology. The kind driven by curiosity rather than mimesis.

Academics who want to be taken seriously by a wide audience will have a much easier time achieving their goal by doing aggregate studies on the many vs attempting to aggregate evidence about outlier individuals.
