The idea that the US legal immigration system is a meritocracy is so dumb that it makes SV’s claims to being one look watertight. But it’s not worth countering because unlike access to tech jobs, even the idea that immigration *should* be based on “merit” is morally moronic

Whether meritocracy or not, it is a system with clear goals. Allows brilliant minds, specialised skills, wealthy (investment), hoarded of good coders when needed and keep others out. Not saying that's good but the way it is.

The point system is morally moronic and is just a lottery of what you were born into.
Should we use random lottery? weighted random selection (weighting based on ...)? FIFO? Or just let everyone in?
