Sometimes I think the alt right is simply the scared right. Sadly all of their attitudes seem to spring from a basic shrinking fear of life itself. I feel like yelling, “man up and get your head in the game, we have a planet to take care of, not just your lucky little backyard”

I have this theory that western nativists get all hung up on the Enlightenment because they really do sincerely believe that it’s the only system of thought of its kind, that it’s emergence was a rare accident, and that humanity would be lost without it

The good news that can be taken away from the Asian historical experience is that you can lose a presumed rare, precious, “indispensable” universalism, but miraculously life goes on. The end of a particular cognitive notion of ‘civilization’ is not the end of civilization

This is why Western reactionaries merely bore and exhaust me rather than scare me. They are like Hindutva types in India, who are still wallowing in nostalgia about cognitive operating systems lost in like 711 -1192 AD with the first Islamic invasions. Life has gone on for 1000y.
