Robustness against future crises comes from a diversity of capacities, most of which aren't needed in the current environment. So we should worry about losing cultural capacities, even if those losses don't seem to cost us at the moment.

Reminds me of how people use snowflakes as a metaphor for uniqueness. There are a finite number of space groups. But then the imperfections still make then unique.
