It depends on how it’s said. Most people, I think, should be able to tell the difference between when it’s for sport and when it’s for real - from both sexes. I like broads that can hang with the boys.

It’s a fine balancing act between being aware of differences and modulating behavior in response and essentializing the differences to draw ridiculously caricatured conclusions. Unfortunately most people who recognize the differences tend to exaggerate them into caricature.

I've seen this! Conversely, a parallel to emasculation for women is the flight or freeze response we can experience when men speak to us in some of the same ways they'd speak to their bros.
