It’s happened to me from changing situations, like different jobs/educational institutions or finding different people to be around. The hard part is finding a compatible setting.

I had the same experience w slow/smooth. I find that housework is good at mitigating this and upping cognitive velocity. Cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry or gardening all get blood flowing while providing plenty of space to think. YMMV

Been there, doing that :-( I don't think biochemical hacks solve it. Somewhere the strengths-eliciting situations are not occurring at the required frequency because there are creative productive bursts on days. 1/

Quitting and pursuing passion, what keeps you awake blah blah is a glib and age-inappropriate suggestion. It's not even that the overall current circumstances are bad, they just don't seem to sustain aliveness at levels we remember having. 2/
