I have overestimated people’s integrity about 2x more often than I have overestimated their intelligence
I guess lack of integrity has a weaker heat signature in things people say than lack of intelligence. Easier to pretend to be good than smart.

Intelligence/smartness is more amenable to degrees or levels than integrity plus it can be compartmentalized in specific domains. Often, with one or two questions it can be gauged.

In many situations people are more willing to reveal lack of intelligence but never lack of integrity.

Yes, I’m perfectly willing to look stupid but cautious enough about integrity that I try to set low expectations deliberately, even if only tongue-in-cheek, hence ‘be slightly evil’
